smellbuquerque
28 September 05 - 19:34 |
remember when we lived in albuquerque?
unfortunately, i do. and i was reminded of those muy loco days when tonight at dinner one of our menu choices was "albuquerque style chicken." and what did the albuquerque style chicken remind me of? a super sweet trip we went on, and we haven't even told you about it yet! it was when our good friend alex was in town. we took a trip to santa fe. i don't know if it was the day, time, or place... but we all seemed a bit tired, and not into the whole santa fe mojo. needless to say, there wern't many electrons in the substrate that day. to lift our spirits, i thought it would be cool to stop and see something a bit more on the nature/outdoorsy side of things. so as we walked to the car we made a stop at a local bookstore. i grabbed one of the new mexico travel guide books and looked for the most interesting picture in the santa fe/albuquerque area. luckily i had a sharpie pen in my purse (sharpies rock!) so neal jotted the directions to a super cool place on his hand, i put the book back on the shelf, and we were on our way. (if you're thinking that what we did was "cheating the system," by not buying the book yet using its sources for our own personal benefit, then let me explain. it is my opinion that as long as you don't bend the pages or spill your $5 starbucks latte on it, there are no worries. no harm, no foul).
so, back to the story...

searching for truth
25 September 05 - 20:53 |
lets be honest, the only thing that one can count on anymore is... not the stock market, not the price of tea in china, not the rising or setting of the sun, nor the decline of modern civilization. the only thing, it seems, one can count on, is... google.
to that end, i searched for the truth to each of our identities. the results might surprise; they might sadden; the might titillate... my only guarantee is that you will not be the same after seeing these instantiations of pure unadulterated truth.
(the test was performed by using google, and the "im feeling lucky" button)
jeff (a hidden passion and career)
corey (a statement about the kind of professional company he keeps)
alex (apparently he moonlights as a burglar of old people with guitars)
neal (mad skillz in all areas)
jason (im pretty sure he stole this guys identity)
hollye (i think its against NCAA policy to play for two teams...)

N-Class
22 September 05 - 21:30 |
first i'm off then i'm on...computers...they keep chewing me up, spitting me out, and then picking me back up to chew me up some more before spitting me out again. if i have an air of frenzy in my typing, it's because i have no idea whether or not this will actually post. anyhow as none of the indocilites have actually spoken to me in some time, you can all guess that there is a veritable plethora exciting news to hear about...but i will leave you with only the most exciting:
saturday night i slept wrong and when i woke up i couldn't move my head. for the next two days any lateral movement i may have considered in engaging in, say...to look at something in the periphery of my vision (for example) had to be considered from the hips. being the good sport that i am, and being so good at turning lemons into lemonade (as well as limes into limeade, grapes to grapeade, etc.) i used the unique opportunity to perfect my 'robot' as well as stare deep into what lies ahead of me.
oh and if you haven't already illegally downloaded the danger doom adult swim tribute, kudos for your strong moral fiber. and if you have, big ups for your taste in both music and sticking it to the man.

Plinko
21 September 05 - 22:01 |
In my continued quest to understand the world around me (and within me) through statistics, I turn to Plinko. Introduced by the great American philospher Bob Barker, Plinko is a lesson in life events. In The Price is Right, you win Plinko chips by guessing prices without going over. In life, you win salvation by guessing religions without going over. I think it was Yuusuf Yushar who said "Most people bounce and fall their entire lives and when it is over they usually wind up with less than $10,000." Clearly, the similarities between Plinko and life are many.
So, what is my point? The Beavers should have beaten Louisville! It was just a case of bad Plinko. I am full to the top with Beaver love and this bad bounce will not deter me. Yes, 63-27 is one heck of a bad bounce. But we still have a few more chips, and we'll win that $10,000 if it kills us. The great philosopher Bob Barker knew the importance of sterilizing pets, but Beavers are not pets. And nothing will sterilize us. Nothing.
Go Beavs!

Whistle Blower!!
12 September 05 - 16:06 |
Does anyone check to make sure that 1 in 4 people who drink Coke actually win? I've had about 100,000 cokes in my life, and at least half of them were labeled "1 in 4 wins!", yet here I stand with less than 10 free Cokes in my lifetime. Is there really a person out there (my statistical opposite) who has won 12,000 free Cokes in a row, or am I on the receiving end of a sham? Also, if someone has won 12,000 in a row, why hasn't he been featured on the local news? That's the type of stuff that local news channels live for. Yeah, murder, sports, and weather fill time - but an unreasonably lucky person? That's real news So where is this lucky diabetic person? He is nowhere! There are no lucky Coke drinkers. We are all Coke victims - addicted to the flavor (the emotional feeling) of Coca-Cola Classic. Really, you expect this sort of nonsense from Ed Mcmahon and his thugs, but not from Coke. No wonder Wendy's serves Coke products - they make natural bedfellows!

From college to professional in 5 seconds flat
12 September 05 - 10:58 |
This weekend, only two things happened in the world:
1. The Oregon State Football Beavers made a convincing argument that they deserve a top-ten rating (although they were snubbed in favor of.....Notre Dame?).
2. Indocilis' own Corey was on national television for at least 5 seconds during a shot of the crowd.
Yep, Corey, in all of his smiling splendor, entered the homes of millions of Americans who were watching the game. I watched the game yesterday on videotape and there is no doubt that Corey will soon be famous. From what I understand, many NFL talent scouts watched this game. I'm sure that Corey's phone is ringing off the hook with calls from NFL teams who wish to offer him a position as "professional football fan." Be warned, Corey, professional football fans usually have short careers - the body just can't withstand the beating that it takes each week. The constant high fives, chest bumps, and liver damage eventually catch up with you. Enjoy it while it lasts Corey. We'll see you on the other side.

Shatner advances his legacy
02 September 05 - 13:45 |
I don't have a link available, but my new favorite song is a William Shatner/Ben Folds Five collaboration. If you want to hear it, open up windows media player, click on "media guide", then search for "ben folds." Listen to the 8th selection on that list of results, which is titled "fear of pop (in love) : ben folds five and william shatner." You will not regret it. It is exactly the type of song that Shatner should produce. It's the one he was born for. His delivery is downright emancipating. I'm not joking - I love this song. My wife - caught up in normal, rational thought - hates the song and told me so as I blasted it from my dual computer speakers last night. But I don't care; Shatner has come between us and I can't force myself to turn him off. If you hate it too, please forgive me for wasting your time.
You won't hate it. Death to Wendy's.
