well, i guess i actually went to new york. and, contrary to common intelligence, neal and hollye are living large. they hang out with teye diggs on a regular basis and i think (i stress 'i think') the three of them are collaborating to write a screen play/cookbook staring the new york mets. very engaging stuff. what's more, despite being so busy, they made time to entertain me by playing online poker while i watched. jason helped with that part. in the end though, i foind (unique verbage signaling the melding of past and present tenses, it's all the rage in europe) myself back in portland...with a whopping three hours missing in my wallet of time...and am very sad to have had to have left. equally sad at the painful wording of that last sentance, it reminds me of a pallendrome but gives me a headache.
i depart with this: if there is one thing to do before you die or before three more semesters is up, it has to be visiting neal and hollye in new york. it helps if jason is there too.

we're not really sure
22 November 05 - 18:44 |
ladies and gentlemen, etc. well basically, things are really super sweet here. most of the stuff that is making it so super sweet is so super sweet that trying to put it into words would merely be an abomination of how really super sweet it is. let me put it this way... pink unicorns that can fly faster than sharks can swim??? eh.... not interested... mannos-6-phosphate? not even on the radar. clients that pay and dont ask for stupid stuff like working when we should eating chinese food??? wrong polarity.... a bus that goes from NY china town to boston china town for under $17??? huh? what? a perfect 10 swan dive through rush hour traffic into a vat of moose droppings? totally benign.
yep.... thats all for now... all you suckas is missin out.

top 7 countdown
17 November 05 - 17:36 |
...of things that happened to me today:
7- i wore flip flops to work... the ones from corey's wedding... and yes, my toes were cold (i blame corey for it).
6- i saw a man laying in the middle of the sidewalk for no apparent reason. he wasn't sleeping. he wasn't asking for money. he was just there.
5- i witnessed a mother tell her daughter not to run on the sidewalk. its the city... where else is she supposed to run?
4- i got whacked in the face by an unassuming elderly woman flinging her scarf over her shoulder while getting off the subway.
3- i was asked how many cows and trees there are in oregon by two jolly shoe salesmen.
2- i ate a stale oatmeal raisin cookie, which left me feeling very dissatisfied.
1- i pet a dog that had better groomed hair than me.

The K9 Rosetta Stone
17 November 05 - 02:40 |
Allright kids. Here you go. For those of you who can watch the dog video, I sugest printing out the translated lyrics and then follow along with the bouncing ball (note: if you can actually see a bouncing ball consult a medical practitioner imediately). After you finish, I then suggest you delete the file, bury the translated lyrics in a deep hole, and wash your brain with a concentrated mixture of 4 parts bleach to every one part Aunt Petunia's Brain Washing Soap. God help you.

The internet and whom?
15 November 05 - 16:26 |
I have a problem in my life. It is called posting photographs online. It's kind of like my own personal 3-minute mile. Even if I train relentlessly for my whole life, the odds are that I will never reach my goal of taking a picture from a website and saving it to my computer, then posting it on Indocilis. In order to run a 3-minute mile, you have to train relentlessly, but training can only take you so far; innate traits like lung capacity and Kenyan citizenship are also necessary. In the same way, I feel that no amount of training can overcome my genetic computer deficit. I think the reason for my problem is that my soul was born in 1918, about the same time as my grandfather. Pappy and I share the same ineptitude for computer concepts. Kind of like idiot kindred spirits. Of course, alzheimer's has exacerbated his computer shortcomings (you should see him try to eat his e-mail!), but I think that I will probably end up like him. In the meantime, my friends, I will keep referring to phantom images in my posts, even though nobody but me can see them. I leave you with the photograph below, which is a picture of my grandfather during his time in The Sudan. Yes, that's Nelson Mandela holding me in his arms. I was only 3 weeks old at the time. See that elephant in the background? His name is Portsmouth and he was my first pet. I wish you all could see it...

an absolute must...
15 November 05 - 14:12 |
hey everybody, hang on for a second. i know you are all busy, and i know some of you *ahhhecccchewwjeffwwwww, excuse me, are on "borrowed" internet, BUT, i feel that neither of those are good enough excuses from downloading the following outrageously large file... seriously, you should do it. to emphasise my feelings on the matter, let me list all of the people who i know would benefit from experiencing this (in order of importance):
corey
jeff
alex
megan
jason
hollye
jos
and dan
and everybody else who has ever, (including spammers and lurkers), been to the site... to be truthful, the file is only a small portion of a larger masterpiece, but i feel that it is the most relevant and probably the most easily pallatable to you fickle folks.
so, without another instant of hesitation:

dreams do fade away, i hope
14 November 05 - 19:15 |
my usual (and somewhat drab) commute home today was graced by an unexpected revelation. as is customary, i was jamming along with the musical bliss that my mini-music-making-machine spits into my ears. with my playlist set to shuffle and volume turned up about 75%, i was good to go for the 40-minute ride. the general trend when listening to music while riding the subway is that depending on, 1- how crowded the subway is; 2- the behavior and/or character of those around you; and 3- your own state of mind, it is entirely possible that your music will either take on one of two roles. 1- the "background music" role, where you are paying more attention to your surroundings than your music; or 2- the "feelin' it" role, where you feel secure with your surroundings, and the music really catches your soul (sometimes this role involves foot tapping, mouthing the lyrics, or head bopping). the truly advanced subway riders find ways to mesh these two roles, but i, of course, am not yet seasoned enough to do so, and therefore often find myself at one of either extreme.
nonetheless,

Shrimp Happy Meal
14 November 05 - 11:14 |
Currently I am a little overwhelmed (in a good way of course) recently I have entered the “modern” world of cellular technology after an amazing run of 2 years with the Motorola Talkabout, an exceptionally long relationship with a cellular phone if I do say so myself, and I am now sporting a brand new sleek and stylish flip complete with camera and a very colorful screen, it’s a little different than the old ringer and it has taken some getting used to…I recently spent close to 30 minutes composing the text to Hollye accepting my Indo. invitation. So, new phone aside, I would like to express, with the comfort of a normal text entering system, my complete and utter excitement to be a part of the Indocilites, despite being compared to bulk shrimp and free happy meals.

That's great, Hollye. But how do you explain your love of cats when they spend so much of their time pooping on the lawns of people who do not own them? As an example, In my own backyard, I have found specimens too numerous to count and too sizeable to engage with my lawn mower. Due to the crafty nature of the species, I have not been able to capture the neighborhood cat who is responsible. I did obtain a photo of the cat with security equipment mounted on my roof (see below). I have placed many bowls of Tylenol around my house, but the feline offender has not taken the bait so far. Adding insult to injury, I come to this website and see you constantly singing the praises of these beasts. Please, Hollye, think of the people who are hurt by cats. THINK OF THE VICTIMS...

XX number II (think chromosomes and then roman)
12 November 05 - 20:37 |
in a stunning twist, the normally reserved and much politically maligned indocilis leadership has decided to extend the warm and somewhat smelly birch branch of opportunity to another super-star in the making. the twist after the twist (you know, the one that always gets you) is that this individual is, indeed, as rumored, a female! this means that hollye, though capable, will not have to bare the burden of holding the standard of the "gentler" sex alone any longer. further, this boosts our population to nearly 8. so, stand with me and join in an overly emotional and downright epic round of applause for, the one, the only, the slightly comprehensible, megan!

welcome!
11 November 05 - 09:29 |
big news... as it turns out we have a new (7th) member of indocilis. to be honest, between the negotiations with his agent, his rumored death, and finally his barely squeaking by the entrance test, it is no small miracle that he is now a card-carrying member of the indocilis crew. he's 9-12 hours out of sync with most of us, so cut him some slack already! ladies and gentlemen (i use that term loosely), jos!

something unusual is going on with the comments. please be patient as we try and fix it.
///UPDATE:/// So basically we got slammed with a truckload of spam comments... they have been deleted, but due to the extremely high volume of spam the "recent comments" section has been cleared. "What does this mean to me?" you ask? well... nothing, except for that if you want to view a recent comment, you may have to find it yourself... "I dont like that!" you say? well... um... wait... whats that i hear? hold on... wait.... yep.... yep, the wha-mbulance...

grace under pressure...
03 November 05 - 19:54 |
i know that some of you will view this post with disbelief, awe, over-whelming respect, uncertainty tinged with fear, amazment and/or jealousy. the fact of the matter is that it takes very little, to no effort for me to post not once, not twice, but thrice... not in a year, not in a month, but yes, a week! and i might add that my posts were with such shocking frequency that the posts appear consecutively... yes, three consecutive posts that have amassed 27 comments (and counting) and 7 karma (all positives!) between them. wait, please save your applause til the end, i am not quite finished... not only am i clearly (see above) good looking, well spoken, and the proud possessor of perfect table manners, i am also (now) famous (if only by association)... feast your eyes kiddies, and if you wait around long enough afterwords, i might have time for an autograph or two... might...
also in a related development, its ok if you have no idea what i am talking about, or think i am full of bull-honey, they have special homes for people like you where you are less likely to endanger yourself or those around you. good night.
