writing 31 March 06 - 10:08
|
recently (read: a second ago) i came to a conclusion. the conclusion is: writing is very important. im compelled, even, to say that writing is of singularly fundamental significance. further, consider the amazing flash of insight the first author must have had. without the concept of recording thought, it would have been really really difficult to imagine it.
one observation about writing, is that in the act of writing, it is implied that one has something to say (that is worth saying). which is (as this post may or may not illustrate) not always the case. another observation is that in writing, unlike thought or speech, the generator of the content has an opportunity to assess his past or in progress work, independent of time. along these same lines, if we are what we think, writing is among the most explicit ways to endure beyond our physical limitations.
to sum up, i dont have anything to say, which says a lot i guess about what ive been thinking about lately. but then does the world need more writers? or is it lacking good readers?

Thankless no more 28 March 06 - 18:08

Let's all give Neal and Hollye a round of blogplause for their tireless work on this, the greatest website ever discovered. Thanks to Hollye, the website has designer colors and New York sass. Thanks to Neal, it has really, really accurate quotes and almost zero annoying "spamments" on each post. Their selfless efforts give nerds and losers everywhere a chance to be heard (as long as they are not Alyssa). It's easy to take Neal and Hollye for granted. Very easy. Even though I am writing this post, I still will take them for granted because of how easy it is, and because of how lazy I am. But at this instant, I am not taking them for granted. And I think that's why I am the greatest Indocilite. But I digress.
Anyway, Thanks Hollye and Neal

today i inadvertently made enough oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to feed the entire oompa-loompla population of willy wonka's factory... twice. if anyone out there wants to stop by within the next few days or so, you are welcome to all the cookies you can eat. as an added bonus, we'll also provide free milk... 1% or whole, your choice! (take that old spaghetti factory)

sporks and foons 21 March 06 - 19:55
|
hello everyone. this is my second post, since i accidentally deleted my first one... i hate that! Anyway, i am going to try and post a logical and coherent post, but today I am without wisdom. Three wisdoms to be exact. I was one short of the normal amount of wisdoms, which might be why I was so weird, but now I have no wisdoms, and i don't know what that means now. I do have some vicodins, though, which might help with my lack of wisdom. so anyway, i was at kentucky fried chicken (in columbus, oh) last week for some pre-exam chicken strips and mashed potatoes. little did i know that i had a half-off coupon back at my apartment for the same exact meal i ordered. I hate that, as well! so i was about ready to unveil that magical little device from its plastic pouch that KFC so delicately includes, along with a napkin with your meal. BUT, much to my chagrin, there was only a lowly plastic fork included with my meal. i quietly put this out of my mind, until now, with nothing better to do but watch ten channels of encore programming on the cable TV, which all happen to be in spanish, with nothing i can do about it. so i began to think about that stupid fork i got, and how disappointed i was that it was not spork, so decided to do a little research into the topic of the spork. if you are still interested, i invite you below the fold...

So the prophecy was true... 21 March 06 - 18:14

Did you know that the OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY gives you free milk with any meal. We're talking bottomless refils of milk for no copay. That's like paying 80 cents for 3 quarters and a dime - it's just smart for the buyer to take advantage. I had never heard of such a thing. I mean, milk is more expensive than gasoline! I'd say Jen and I drank about a quart with our meal, and that does not include what we hid in her purse. Jen does not drink milk, so I guess I drank a quart.
Anyway, for its extreme valor, THE OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY has been promoted to my anti-boycott list. The OSF joins other proven friends of the dairy industry such as Totino's Pizza, OREO, and Aerosmith (think big ones album cover). OK. bye.

the fruits of my labor... 19 March 06 - 22:15

...are stale and crusty. work has managed to keep me busy enough to come home at the end of the day nearly too zonked to do personal projects. sometimes i feel uninspired... sometimes its general laziness... and sometimes its this, that, or the other thing. regardless, we had company last week... which was really great! a few highlights:
the chapmans in the city:
casey at the met:
it is amazing to realize that we're just two short months away from heading back to oregon. time sure does fly out here. there are aspects that i will miss about the city... i've grown quite fond of a great many things out here. but coming back to ore. will also have its perks. for now, i'm to sleepy to elaborate... see you soon, y'all.

photo challenge #5 18 March 06 - 20:18
|
the theme for photo challenge #5 is simply this: "muy cinco"
take it as you will or take it as you won't. but whatever you do, make it really cinco.
that is all! voting will begin on march 25th at midnight EST/ nine PM PST
hi. i just wanted to say that. since i never post. i will try to do that though. soon. post, that is. but really right now i just wanted to say hi. and that's pretty much really all i have time to say. for the time being. like i said, i intend to have more to say soon. or, rather, have more time to say what i have to say soon. it's not that i don't have anything to say so much as i don't have, at the moment, the time to say it. which is why i've only posted a brief one word post of 'hi.' i would have liked to have been able to post something longer with more substance and flowery language, maybe some quirky but innovative metaphores. and hyperbole. i know indocilites enjoy hyperbole. but all that will have to wait, because i only have time for a brief and quick note. i don't want to get sucked in to posting a long drawn out message detailing the past three months of my life when i have work to do. holy crap. it's 11:33?!?! i'mlategottagotalktoyousoonstayoutoftroubleandenjoyst.patty'sdayandhaveagood

Peace is for Hippies 15 March 06 - 14:29

Jason, I've put some more thought into your peace offering...
And I do appreciate the fact that it was allergen free...
But I think I like it better like this:

Let's share some peace, dude 15 March 06 - 13:21
|
It has come to my attention that perhaps I have been
too harsh on our friend Corey. Kinda like that April Fools joke I
played on him two years ago... (which was priceless, btw) Well... as a peace
offering, I offer to you this... I have genetically altered it to make
it allergen free, so your IgE will behave itself...

Par for the course 10 March 06 - 13:14

Oregon is being pounded by intermittent flurries of snow this week.
You're welcome.
I just took the insulators off of my home's exterior water faucets and not 12 hours later, the temperature dropped and the barometer dove like a white boxer. Yes, it snowed on March 9th in Oregon because I tried to get a jump on "summerizing" my house. I'll repeat the exercise in time for Christmas in 2006.

english muffins for everyone 02 March 06 - 08:42
|
when i woke up this morning i looked out the window. the sky was gray... overcast... bleeegh! i went about my morning routine... stuck a few pieces of bread in the toaster, put some tea water on the stove, went and gussied up in the bathroom mirror. about 15 minutes later something in the window caught my eye. SNOW! if anyone has read my previous posts, they will know that snow makes me revert to "little girl" mentality. excitement. amazement. butterflies in the belly for no apparent reason. not wanting to get my hopes up too much, i told myself the snowfall would probably last for a few minutes and be over for the day. however, by the time i left the house, the snowflakes had enlarged and multiplied. so down to the subway i went with my toungue catching every possible snowflake along the way. 30 minutes later, emerging at the 34th street station, the snowfall was once again light and sparse. darn, i thought. and now, about three hours since my wake, i am at work keeping a close watch on the windows behind me. as i type the snowflakes are as big as english muffins, and there is a "severe weather alert" continuing throughout the day for NYC. and all i have to say is, i love english muffins!
