a very special performance

well lately i thought "man, i should make indocilis more entertaining!" so... what better way to do that then... duh duh duh duh (it will make more sense if you sing it silently to yourself), write a list of things i hate!
1. conversations with people who agree with everything (i call them agreefests).
2. conversations with people who only like to argue.
3. conversations that include frequent use of the word "society" and/or "moralistic."
4. overhearing other peoples conversations that make you feel dumb for ever trying to have a deep conversation.
5. this one waiter at Ollie's.
6. realizing that you have enough free time to think about something non-time-sensitive.
7. being totally disturbed by how foreign it feels to think about something non-time-sensitive.
8. dishonesty.
9. jerks.
10. uncertainty.
11. certainty.
12. lists with one word entry's; like their stream of understanding is so deep and powerful that one eloquently chosen word can sum up a lifetime of insight and reflection.
13. movies that i really really dont like.
14. people using big words to inflate their meaning.
15. people using small words out of laziness or disinterest.
16. the way that most people hate the extremes and are bored to tears by moderation.
17. the way that most people always have the answer to everything.
18. the burden of opportunity (ill post about it later maybe).
19. words with no meaning.
20. french fries that dont taste good unless you put sauce on them.
21. waiters/waitresses who dont give you good service unless you order a drink.
22. umbrellas in general.
23. the news.
24. elephant ears (both the kind on elephants and the one's at the fair).
25. lists that stop at a multiple of 5,10,100, or 33.

Mini-Hollye

While looking through some of Alyssa's recent studio photography, I was shocked to find this:

There are only two possibilities:
1. Hollye has a secret child
or
2. Hollye has had herself cloned.
I think you owe us an explanation Mrs. Chapman.

i really can't wait for summer-- spring is like walking by a dessert shop at midnight when you've got an inkling for chocolate cake. you can see the frosted goodness through the glass-- teasing you with its precise decadence-- but you just can't get to it. similarly, the spring sun comes one day-- warms your bones and puts a bounce in your step-- and the next day it is overcast, rainy, and downright flattening. shame on you, mr. sun, for teasing us with your sultry rays!
in the summer, i'm glad to wear flip flops every day. i love investing my .99 cents on a huge slurpee. i enjoy the feeling of tank tops and anything other than long pants. i love to buy cheap sunglasses and wear them excessively. anything to do with a great lawn is amazing-- laying down, playing games, chasing kittens. its great to jump in the car, roll all the windows down, and drive anywhere, just to feel the breeze. finally, summer breeds great pictures.
i'm glad to be going back to oregon for the summer, but quite honestly, i'll miss experiencing new york city in the summer. i believe that the city takes on a complete transformation-- an entirely new type of energy comes to light. even in spring, any bit of sunshine changes the collective mood of the city's inhabitants. there are more thank you's and pardon me's-- there are more smiles-- there are fewer horns honking. i think that if you really want to know what the weather is like in a particular location, what you need is a "collective mood" gauge. because we may not know what kind of clouds are forming above our heads, but we can most likely gauge the aura of our surroundings.

just for the sake of it

well hello again friends. i like to get confessions out of the way first. in light of this i feel obliged to tell you that i dont know what this post is going to be about yet... im kind of, how do you say? ah yes... winging it.
hollye and i went to south carolina the other day (friday-monday morning). it was good to see family and get out of the city. sometimes when you are in the city you forget about things you are missing. like... grass, sun, clean air, quiet, and good beds. later on, when ive finished typing, i might insert some pictures someplace below in an effort to further illustrate just exactly what it was like to be in the more southern of the carolinas. i went (with justin) to augusta national and watched the masters... or more precisely i watched two pro golfers (leonard and curtis) hit a grand total of 9 shots (4 of which were putts) and then walked around one of the most stunningly beautiful place i have ever been (grand canyon, white sands, clackamas community college, top of the empire state building, and west linn are also in the running). i probably would have seen more golf shots but the rain and threat of lightening had other ideas. i cant really just sit here and give you any sort of idea of the affect that walking onto that golf course can have on a person (or me at least). im having a little trouble sorting out exactly why it felt so strong... it could have been magnified by the exclusiveness of it or perhaps it was beautiful in spite of it... you couldn't bring cell phones, cameras, food, or weapons on to the course... but they did have sandwiches ($1.50) and chips ($0.50) and sodas ($0.75) for sale... they charge $175 for a week-long pass to the tournament... driving to the course there are 1.5 miles worth of parking lots containing people with signs advertising the fact that they are willing to pay over $2k for one... you see so many people once you walk through the gates... mostly southern or frat-boy (or frat-used-to-be-boy) types... also a lot of guys wearing their golf stuff... like, just in case they get a chance to play or something... that was funny. any way you slice it, ive decided that i need to have a golf course sometime in my life. the irony is that i think competitive golf doesnt make any sense... its almost as ridiculous as competitive fishing... but maybe thats just because im no good at either. there is a lot more to say about the trip... but i feel like when i talk about it i miss so much of what was important about it. isn't that the way it goes.
on a related note - - everytime i leave campus for any period of time i think "there is no way i should still be in school" and then everytime i get back to campus i think "there is no way i should leave this place." i guess that its good to see so much potential (i have a good imagination and am in denial about a great many things) but it also makes me feel kinda tired.
the other day as hollye and i were enjoying a pleasant dining out experience in the city we played a fun game... it was called "speak precisely and eloquently." it was hard but fun. how often do we say things that isn't quite what we mean because we know our meaning will be understood? newspapers were the death of the english language. its not that my vocabulary or sentence composition is so great or even above the average... but wouldn't it be handy to say what, exactly, we mean in a way that pleased the ear?
