Lately I have had my eye on this pumpkin that is at Fred Meyer.  Now usually I am a traditionalist and I only like to get my pumpkins from the patch but this year I have been a little short on time.  When I first saw this pumpkin I knew that I would never in my right mind pay the price that Fred was asking, 29.99 is a little steep even for a Halloween enthusiast....Well the sun must have been shining on me Saturday when I went to pick up a few last minute treats at the store, my favorite pumpkin was still there and this time I decided to give it a closer look.  Well as you may know pumpkins do not like to be warm this is why they are kept outside in their native environment.....

wind storm
28 October 06 - 17:17

last night was very windy here in nyc. at one point i even thought i felt our building sway a little bit... but this was most likely my sleep-driven imagination.

anyhow, this morning we went out for brunch and found this along the way:

wind wind in my hair

apparently the wind blew down the scaffolding. yikes! also, if you want to see some other random pictures from my camera phone, click 'more' below.

Yeah, I couldn't post this until somebody else posted on top of the Westermann's house post
27 October 06 - 17:47

So Jen and I went to New York City (NYC) and it was sensational. I learned the following things about NYC:

1. NYC supposedly contains five burroughs, but that is not true.

2. Manhattan, the island that fully contains all of NYC, is clean and friendly. For an accurate portrayal, you should watch Maid in Manhattan.

3. NYC's subway system enjoys the most talented panhandlers in the world. The subway musicians are phenomenal. I highly recommend missing your train on purpose.

4. NYC's subway system purchased its ventilation equipment second-hand from the devil. It is crazy hot down there.

5. NYC's hotdog vendors sell regular hot dogs. The hype is probably not justified.

6. Macy's: 9 floors of nothing. I wish the wood escalator was for sale, though.

7. Order wine with your meal or the wait staff will have Vinny kill you.

8. Little Italy is like Disneyland but with real people instead of actors. Same with Chinatown.

9. Recommended: Go to Chinatown and watch a busy intersection for a while. I gaurantee that you will see somebody almost get killed.

10. If you are on camera at the David Letterman show, you should just sit there and calmly clap your hands like everyone else. I do not recommend the double fist pump. For visual evidence against the double fist pump, watch tonight's David Letterman show and look closely for the guy in the striped sweater who goes nuts when the cameras are filming him. That is me. Due to the sheer scale of Letterman's viewing audience, it is the most embarassing thing I have ever done.

we're missing the griggs already... but i did find this to cheer me up!

***Addmendum*** I recently decided that im going to start a hip-hop career. my emcee name is going to be "ill iterate" and my rhymes will consist primarily of multi-syllabic words normally reserved for pedantic discourse. so, needless to say, i expect ill be an overnight sensation!

happy birthday to the #1 indocilis poster
20 October 06 - 09:11

today is and always will be the day on which the date of the day is the same as the date on the day on which hollye was born! all that being said...

i wish you a...

super duper special and fun happy-birthday hollye anna!

jeff and jen should be arriving shortly (after an almost ill-fated taxi adventure) and we're going to party down like crazy (including 50% off sushi) on account of the fact that today is and always will be the day on which the date of the day is the same as the date on the day on which hollye was born!

also, on a personal note, i think we all owe hollye a thank you for keeping the fun-bus a-rolling here on indocilis as her tireless posts have brightened many a cubicle/office/classroom/bedroom/computer-lab/living-room. so, thank you dear hot-looking-lady, and happy birthday!

Cheese cake…
15 October 06 - 14:21

The other day I was looking through my cookbook trying to find something to make. I wasn’t headed in a particular direction - just trying to get inspired. I stumbled across a recipe for a New York cheese cake. The recipe was a tad intimidating, but I was feeling brave and decided to take on the challenge.

Now one thing you should note is that Corey hates cheese cake, which leaves me with the question: Who am I going to make this cheese cake for? I can’t have my culinary feat go unnoticed.   I decided to find some guests. First off I call the Griggs, and like last weekend they had plans. No problem, I call the Schwoebels, they too have plans. I would have called the Chapmans but as most of you know they are in New York, and have New York Cheese Cake readily available to them, so they would probably have declined. My only other option was the Konrads, but they were moving.

So I have come to a few conclusions.

#1 either no one likes cheese cake except me.

#2 Corey and I will need to stop being so lame and actually make plans with more than a                                                      24 hour notice.

#3 or no one really likes us and they are just trying to be polite.

marlborough / boston
14 October 06 - 22:50

this weekend we had the pleasure of going to marlborough, mass, as well as boston, mass. it was a decent trip. we saw beautiful fall trees, extreme road rage (a car in front of us stopped in the middle of the freeway so the driver could get out and shake his fist at the car behind him, etc), and got more of a flavor of the northeast. we didn't take many pictures, but here are a few.

it seems like the last post really brought a lot of negative energy into the vibe around here... it is due to this and other factors that i present to you the following video-offering.

to sum up, i have no idea what the heck this video is about or why it exists. i do know, however, how profoundly it has changed my life.

tick, tick, tick....booooom
12 October 06 - 13:30

For the most part I think I’m a pretty relaxed person. I have known for a while, however, that in spite of my relaxedness I have an amazingly small reservoir of patience. Further, when that reservoir is depleted, it takes a very, very long time for it to refill. This week my patience reservoir has been siphoned completely dry. Basically, I’m a ticking time bomb of fury.

Here’s why:

1- Hwy 217

2- Fantasy Football

3- Architects

4- Low Urinals

5- Home prices

6- E-bay

7- Dump Trucks

8- Fruit Flies

Continue on if you care why these things made my list.

a recap
07 October 06 - 23:00

just in case you haven't been keeping tabs, here is an all-inclusive list of the famous people we have seen in new york (in reverse chronological order)

Parker Posey (today just north of Union Square, and yes, she did smile at me)
Iggy Pop (a couple of days ago in Midtown with Matt in a car )
Philip Seymor Hoffman (at the beginning of the term around NYU)
Bob Bababan (last year around Lincoln Center)
Malik Rose (in Soho)
Edward Najahara (at Columbus Circle)

anyway, the point is that we are practically famous now, so that's sweet. also jeff and jenn are visiting soon which we are looking forward to. Lastly but not leastly we had a pleasant time on our roof today with matt, manisha, david, and a guy who's name started with a "j". also (sorry i lied about the lastly thing) corey and alyssa have assured us that their confirmed arrival date is coming shortly. And lastly (really this time, (maybe)) jason and megan have plans to be in the NYC during the thanksgiving time frame. what im trying to say here is that our celebrity status is skyrocketing and things couldnt be better! also, this happened at columbia recently (warning: has political ramifications)

command + z
06 October 06 - 11:18

you know you've been using the computer too much when you start thinking you can hit command + z (otherwise known as the "undo" function) in your everyday life. like when you tie your jacket's belt into a bow, decide its not good and re-tie it... but then you realize the first bow was better and you automatically think about hitting command + z.

anyway, that's how my day is going.
